Location: This peat bog is located north of the CV-004 - Muscoasa peat bog, in the north of Covasna county, close to the border with Harghita county, on the ATU of Estelnic commune, at an altitude of 958 m, with GPS coordinates latitude (N) 46 ˚10'9.32 ”, respectively longitude (E) 26˚12'26.84”, and an area of 17.25 ha. The respective area is superimposed with the land with no. cadastre 24561 in the property of Estelnic commune. It is an integral part of the site of community interest Natura 2000 Tinovul Apa Lină - Honcsok ROSCI0241 and of the special avifauna protection area ROSPA0169.
Conservation status: The main habitat type is 7140 - Transitional peat bogs, and the secondary 7110 - Active domed swamps and 7230 - Alkaline swamps, next to which there are other important habitats respectively protected at European level: 91E0 * Alnus glutinosa alluvial forests and Fraxinus excelsior (Alno-Padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae), 91D0 * Peatlands with forest vegetation, 6410 Molinia meadows on carbonate, peat or loam-clay soils and 6440 Alluvial meadows of Cnidion dubii river valleys. Conservation status of primary and secondary habitats 7140 - Transitional peat bogs, 7110 - Active convex swamps and 7230 - Alkaline swamps are unfavorable with advanced and continuous degradation, which require rehabilitation interventions. Conservation status of habitats other than the main and secondary ones, respectively: 91E0 * Alluvial forests of Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior (Alno-Padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae), 91D0 * Peatlands with forest vegetation, 6410 Molinia meadows on carbonate soils , turbid or loamy-clayey and 6440 Alluvial meadows of the river valleys of Cnidion dubii are considered unfavorable due to the identified disturbing factors.
Identified pressures and threats: During the field inspections, the current pressures were identified, but also those that will threaten the habitats in the future. In addition to those identified in the restoration schemes in the PeatRO program, we also identified other disruptive factors, pressures and threats:
- bridges filled on the tributary of the Apa-Lină brook (from the West) that feeds the respective area. In order to restore the optimal water regime, these bridges must be cleaned and maintained (sub-activity A.3.2);
- invasion of woody vegetation, species of Salix cinerea, Salix caprea, Betula pubescens. These species due to the dry years of the past began to invade as much as possible, occupying an area of 3.12 ha of peatland. Habitats 7140, 7110, 7230 are affected. Requires sub activity 4.1;
- invasion of grassy vegetation, species of Juncus tennuis, Breeze media, Deschampsia caespitosa, Festuca rubra, Juncus conglomeratus, Nardus stricta, Veratrum album. At the edges of the habitat 7140, 7110, 7230 due to droughts and the accumulation of biomass quantities, the invasion of non-characteristic species began, which required interventions on an area of 4.2 ha (sub-activity 4.2);
- the accumulation of the amount of biomass by the decomposition of the grassy vegetation, which contributes to the increase of the degree of mineralization and eutrophication of the peat bog. Requires interventions and mowing on an area of 10.5 ha (sub-activity A.6.1);
- accumulation of biomass by decomposing woody vegetation. Fires have been identified in previous years that have produced a volume of approx. 8 cubic meters of dead wood mass from dwellings 91D0 and 91E0, for which their extraction is required (sub-activity A.6.2);
- the protected species Ligularia sibirica and those typical of habit 7110 are endangered, e.g. Drosera rotundifolia, Comarum marsh through uncontrolled tourism. Requires thematic route (sub-activity A.8.1);
- in some places in habitats 7140 and 7110 it was found that there is the extinction of characteristic species, which is why it requires intervention through sub-activity 5.1 and 5.2.
