The Research and Development Institute for Hunting and Mountain Resources (ICDCRM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment - Romania, the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), and the National Agency for Protected Natural Areas (ANANP), project partners in the "Restoration of Wetlands and Peatlands in the Central Region - RePEAT," organized the first scientific conference dedicated to the restoration of peatlands in the Carpathians in ICDCRM's new conference hall.
Over the course of the three-day event, studies, initiatives, and issues related to the management of wetlands and peatlands were presented, as well as the current state of soils in Romania, innovative methods for monitoring soils and surface waters. During visits to the Tinovul Mohoș, Tinovul Luci, and Apa Lină peatlands, as well as Lake Sfânta Ana, the ICDCRM team showcased the restoration work carried out within the RePEAT project.
The need to pay more attention to wetlands in terms of conservation and valorization, through the establishment of partnerships between research institutions and public authorities, was argued by leaders of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (ASAS), Prof. Dr. Ioan Jelev, Vice-President, and Prof. Dr. Mihail Dumitru, President of the Soil Science, Land Improvement, and Environmental Protection Section, as well as leaders from local and national authorities Mr. Attila Korodi, Mayor of Miercurea Ciuc, Mr. Dan-Ștefan Chiru, State Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP), and Mr. Andrei Alexandru, State Secretary in the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization (MCID).
